Consulting

Start with the outcome that matters

Customers often come to us with a clear idea of what they need. Our job is to step back, return to first principles and identify the real problem behind the request.
Sometimes the answer is technical, but sometimes the issue starts with the business, governance, people or team structure. If it does, we'll let you know. When there is a technical solution, we help you uncover, scope and deliver it, with the cloud experience to get it right in a fast-moving field.

How We Work

Humans in the lead

Automated tools find facts fast, but they can miss the context that determines what the data means for your business, team and customers.

Understand before acting

We take the time to know your business, build relationships and understand your priorities before recommending any technology.

Built around you

Every project is tailored to how you operate and your goals, from the cloud platforms we choose to the managed services that support you.

Cloud Consulting Services

Build Secure Foundations

The right strategy, architecture and technology from the start

Cloud Advisory

Independent, experienced advice for big technology decisions

Cloud advisory gives you an external safety net and a trusted pair of hands when the stakes are high. We bring broad industry experience to help spot what an internal team may miss, clarify the real problem and turn it into a practical outcome.

  • Senior specialists who have seen the same decisions play out across many industries and environments
  • Human judgement applied to the findings, explained in business terms so you can weigh the trade-offs and make decisions with confidence
  • We'll tell you when we see the real issue as organisational rather than technical, instead of forcing a technology solution

Well-Architected Framework

Benchmark your environment against proven best practice

The Well-Architected Framework is a recognised industry standard for assessing the health of a cloud environment against a defined set of controls. We run the assessment, then work through what it actually means for you.

  • We use the available tooling, but add a consultative view rather than stopping at the report
  • We talk through each control with your team, because how a control is met often carries nuances that a paper-based review misses
  • The review provides a prioritised view of the risks and gaps, and a clear sense of what to tackle first

Security

Locked down from day one and managed through code

Security comes before anything else in a cloud environment. We establish it from the start, manage controls through code and make sure every change passes code review, deployment controls and approval.

  • While we're running the environment, every change goes through review and approval, so settings don't get altered by hand
  • Handover and aftercare get the same attention as the build, with practical risk management throughout
  • Where it helps, we'll recommend an extended handover to build your team's capability and confidence

Networking

Robust connections between the cloud and the systems you rely on

Networking is the connectivity foundation that lets cloud services work with the rest of your business environment. It links your cloud to your existing systems, platforms and infrastructure, whether those stay on-premises or move across too.

  • One of the hardest parts of cloud to get right, and one of the least talked about by the cloud providers themselves
  • We build it into the foundations rather than leaving it to sort out later
  • Strong, reliable access to the systems that matter to you, and a secure base to build on

Accelerate Modernisation

Modernise through migration, engineering and operational change

Migration

Carefully planned, properly tested moves to the cloud

Migration moves your systems from one environment to another, whether that's from on-premises infrastructure to the cloud or between cloud environments. Done right, it takes testing, validation, networking design and a clear map of dependencies.

  • Intricate work that takes care, experience and specific team capability, more than automated tooling can provide
  • Planned around your networking and the systems that connect to them, so nothing gets missed
  • Less downtime and fewer operational issues, with an environment that works as expected from day one

DevOps

Code-first control, traceability and repeatability

DevOps is a code-first approach to delivering and managing infrastructure. Rather than making manual changes through a cloud console, your infrastructure, configuration and deployment processes are held in code and managed through a repository, so every change can be tracked, tested, improved or rolled back.

  • Every project we run uses this approach, so you get a clear audit trail of what was done and when
  • Deep capability built up across every environment we've delivered
  • Works as a standalone engagement or alongside our landing zone or migration services

Cloud Native

Cloud services that strip out complexity

Cloud-native services hide much of the underlying plumbing that platforms have traditionally been built from: networking, servers, storage and databases. Instead of assembling and operating every component yourself, you can build on existing cloud capabilities best suited to the job.

  • We combine cloud services creatively to solve larger business problems, not just swap like for like
  • We spot the opportunities during a new build or migration, when they're cheapest to act on
  • We can help you work through the business case and costs analysis against traditional infrastructure, so the decision metrics are made clear

FinOps

Granular visibility and control of your cloud bill

FinOps is the financial management of your cloud spend, giving you more control over where the money goes day to day. It identifies problem areas that could go unnoticed and helps avoid unexpected spikes.

  • We go deeper than the standard cloud platform tools, reviewing spend service line by line with our proprietary tools
  • That in-depth review finds overspend a standard review misses, including unnoticed charges and unexpected spikes
  • Our Cost Guardian Service gives you a third-party view that isn't tied to growing the cloud provider's revenue, and targets one-off reductions of 5 to 15% on your bill

Operational Modernisation

The structure and skills your cloud operating model needs

Operational modernisation restructures your teams and operating model around the way cloud changes who does what. It gives you a clear view of the structure you need, the skills it calls for and the distance between where you are and where you need to be.

  • Direct, candid conversations about capability, including the parts that are uncomfortable to hear
  • We assess the skills your environment needs, measure your team against them and show you the gaps
  • The trust built through that process means we can support you through the organisational change that follows

End User Compute

Right-sized access for the people who need it

End user compute gives your people access to the systems they need to do their work, whether that's a traditional laptop or a virtual desktop for reaching a particular part of the environment. The job is to size that access properly, for the person and the environment.

  • We take the time to work out how much access people actually need and how the environment should be structured around them
  • Right-sized from the start, so you're not paying for over-provisioned capacity or desktops left running when nobody's using them
  • Managed through its lifecycle and kept current on patching and security

Transform with Data & AI

Create new capability and insight with modern data and AI

Big Data

Join the dots across disconnected systems

Big data brings together information from the systems you already use, pulling it into one place with data services and data lakes so you can see how it connects and make better-informed decisions.

  • Deep capability across third-party tooling, backed by close relationships with the major cloud and analytics providers
  • Insights that only come from having a unified view of your business
  • Consolidated data is the foundation AI needs, so this is often the groundwork for what comes next

Generative AI

From proof of concept to secure, scalable workflows

Generative AI can streamline processes, speed up development and create new capability. We help you identify the use cases worth pursuing, test whether they hold up and move them from proof of concept into everyday use.

  • We start with the business problem, assessing the value and practical fit before anything gets built
  • We take it beyond the demo, through discovery, prototyping, testing and into production
  • We combine public cloud AI services with our own architectures to ensure you have a secure and scalable environment

FAQs

How do you work out what we need?

We start by looking at the core problem rather than the request. Most customers come to us with a clear idea of what they want built, and our first job is to step back and find the issue behind it. From there, we can tell you whether there's a technical solution, what it would involve and what it would cost to build and run.

We already have a capable cloud team. Where do you fit?

We offer an independent view, a safety-net and added expertise as needed. We've seen similar decisions across many industries and environments, so we can often spot what an internal team might miss, validate a plan before you commit, or handle specialist tasks while your team stays on the day-to-day.

How do you handle security?

We set the controls at the start and manage them through code, so every change goes through review, deployment controls and approval rather than a manual edit nobody sees. Where your team is taking the environment on afterwards, we'll sometimes recommend a longer handover to build their confidence first.

What makes a cloud migration go wrong?

Migrations usually get stuck on the parts outside standard tools, like dependencies between systems, network design, and whatever else connects to what you're moving. A migration needs testing, validation and a clear map of what talks to what. Automated tools do some of the grunt work, but they don't understand your environment and certainly don’t know what’s important to your business.

What if the problem isn't a technical one?

Sometimes what looks like a technology problem turns out to be about governance, process, or how the teams are structured. In that case, we’ll let you know what our analysis has uncovered so you can avoid spending budget on a technical fix that doesn't solve the underlying issue.

What is a Well-Architected Review?

It's an Amazon-developed standard for assessing a cloud environment against a defined set of controls, covering areas like security, reliability, performance and cost. We run the assessment using the available tooling, then work through each control with your team to pick up nuances a paper-based review can miss.

What is a code-first approach?

Your infrastructure, configuration and deployment processes are held in code, known as infrastructure as code, and managed through a repository. That means every change is tracked, reviewed and can be rolled back cleanly, and your team gets a documented process to keep using after we've finished.
